Multicolumn Sorting In Outlook

You’re probably used to sorting your emails by the fields listed along the top of the message window. As shown below, if you click in the grey title area marked Received, the emails are sorted from latest received to earliest received. If you click the title again, they’ll be sorted in reverse order.

But did know that you can sort on multiple columns by holding down the Shift key when clicking on a title? Each additional title can be clicked again to sort in reverse—so you could sort by the From address forward and the Received date backward. This also works in Windows Explorer (My Computer).

If you want to sort by a field that isn’t listed across the top of your message window, you can add fields by right-clicking on the title bar and clicking on Field Chooser. You can add relevant data to your message box list by dragging the name of the field (like CC or Size) to the place you want it to appear on the title bar.
