AutoCorrect Entries in Word
You’ve probably noticed Word going in and change teh to the without being
told. There’s a long list of commonly misspelled words in the AutoCorrect
dictionary that is shared by all Microsoft Office applications. You can view the
list by going to Tools > AutoCorrect… You should see the graphic below.
The list begins with common symbols like trademark and emoticons, but if you
scroll down you’ll see such time-honored misspellings as thier and recieve.
If you’re wondering how to leave your misspellings misspelled, just hit
Undo or <cntl>Z immediately after Word tries to correct you. AutoCorrect
is a useful feature but if your name is Mr. Teh, it can get awfully annoying
just trying to type your own name! To permanently remove an AutoCorrect entry,
simply find it on the list and click the Delete button seen at the bottom right
of the dialog box.

You can define your own AutoCorrect entries if there are words you find you
just can’t spell correctly. Everyone has certain words they simply always
spell wrong.
A nice trick in AutoCorrect is to define words that you just don’t want to
spell out. For instance, if your name is Zebidiah Zachary
Wolframhammerscmidtstein you might get tired of typing out your name. Simply go
into AutoCorrect and type zzw in the Replace: field and the full name in the
With: box.
This works for any long Partnership name, legal definition of a corporate
identy, complex chemical or pharmaceutical agents or any particulary troublesome
word.
To see this feature demonstrated, go the the Tips
and Tricks section of our website and look for
AutoCorrect.
